Our Story

Our Why

Wingmom was founded by Meg Hurst and Kate Maxwell in 2017. Although Meg left Wingmom in 2019, Meg and Kate are still best friends and the spirit of their friendship is still reflected in Wingmom today.

It all started when Kate lost her fiancé in the line of duty during a fire in 2016; Kate was devastated. Losing her partner changed who she was and the things she viewed as important. Kate found herself wondering about her future and searching for her next steps. She was grateful to be surrounded by a group of women who supported her and she knew she wanted to help others as she had been helped during her time of need. When she got back on her feet, she was given a purpose with the help of Wingmom co-founder Meg and ultimately Wingmom was born.

As Wingmom grew, Kate knew what her calling was and vowed to create an extensive support system for people in need of a little extra help. To this day, Wingmom is still proudly women owned, women run and largely powered by women.

Kate began to grow Wingmom into a support village that Northern Delaware came to relay on. So much so, that interest began to pop up in the surrounding areas and Kate knew it was time to expand by finding like-minded individuals to open and run Wingmom branches. By the end of 2024, Wingmom had grown to 5 branches in 4 states with plans to continue spreading Wingmom to communities who need their own support village.

Kate loves hiking in Arden, where she lives with her two sons, Landon and Casey. She is active in a number of non-profit organizations as well as being a proud member of the addiction community. Her passion for helping others is evident in the community projects sponsored by Wingmom, and this type of outreach has become one of the tenets of the company.

Susan worked in childcare for over 20 years, first as an educator, then as an administrator and center owner. Once she began to grow her family, she decided to retire from childcare and focus on her home life. When she was ready to rejoin the workforce, she turned to Wingmom as a way to make money while still having the flexibility to make her family her first priority. After a few weeks with the North DE Branch, it was determined her business background would be put to better use in an administrative capacity. Now, she works alongside Kate and the various Branch Owners to continue to grow the brand that is Wingmom and carry out its important mission of helping people in the community. Susan has lived in Delaware since the early 90’s, graduated from the University of Delaware and now resides in Newark with her husband, Don, and their 2 sons.

Anna Steppich began her journey with Wingmom in 2017 as a client, where she experienced firsthand the invaluable support the organization provides for seniors and their families. After relocating to Callicoon, New York, in late 2019, Anna recognized a vital need in her new community for the same compassionate services that had benefited her so much in Delaware. In August 2022, she opened Wingmom Catskills, and in early 2024, she became a co-owner of Wingmom Inc. In September of 2024, she proudly took ownership of Wingmom Delaware, expanding the reach of these essential services.

With over 20 years of experience caring for family members in a senior support capacity, Anna is deeply committed to enhancing the lives of seniors in her community. Her background includes a rewarding role as a local office manager for the U.S. Census Bureau in Delaware, as well as service on various boards across states.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Anna cherishes her role as a mother to two adult children and a young daughter at home. She is also a proud grandmother to two granddaughters, embracing every moment of this joyful journey. In her spare time, Anna enjoys competitive archery with her family, a passion that brings them closer together.
